The SEason House


Season House, our family run hotel, is one of the only two houses at Shingriteng overlooking the entire Lachung valley; the other belongs to our revered Lachung Rinpoche. The House is in three parts (L-R). The pink one is mostly cement concrete. The kitchen (roof partially seen) is wooden. The dark-brown house with green roof is the oldest and is fully wood-built and this is the one most want to stay in (and me too).

Lachung is a cluster of four main villages - Beechu, Shingring, Phakha and Sharchok. Season House, our family-run 8-roomed lodge is situated at Shingriteng a small hill-top above Shingring village,  overlooking all the villages. Cabbage, broccoli, chives, potato, wheat, barley and apple trees grow in the ancestral land surrounding the lodge.

Shari Kida Ngen Chung peak (above) is visible from Season House window. Thankarla peak (not shown in pic) is on the right. The valley on the right leads to Katao (bordering Chumbi Valley of TAR, China) while the valley on the left leads North to Yumthang.

Spacious rooms are airy, with clean attached bath.  Visitors often find it hard to return back home from here. 

Activities

  • Visit Yumthang
  • Explore Shingba Rhododendron Sanctuary (SRS)
  • Take a dip in the Yumthang Hotspring
  • Explore  Alpine flora at Yumesamdong and later take a dip in the Yumesamdong Hotspring
  • Village-walk  the Lachung valley
  • Get high on Chhang with the locals

It  does get cold here in winter and the fireplace is much loved. The local millet brew called "Chhang" (pic below) helps keep warm. Don't take its simple look for granted though. More than a few sips can bring quite some whistles out of you. 


 Whenever planning to visit Lachung and Yumthang or just Lachung, do stay at Season House and fall in love with the peace and  calm of the atmosphere here.
